2008 AUSTIN KEARNS CGC CELEBRITIES
 |
|
Austin Kearns
After an impressive career at Lafayette High School, Austin was the seventh over all pick for the Cincinnati Reds. Austin was
not only one of the greatest hitters ever to play high school baseball in Kentucky, he was also a great pitcher. Many professional scouts debated
whether he should be a first round draft pick as a pitcher or as a hitter. In his first full season with the Reds, he hit 18 home runs with 67 RBI. He
played for the Reds from 2002 until he was traded to the Washington Nationals in 2006 where he is known as one of the best fielding outfielders
in the National League. In 2007, Austin had career highs in RBI (74) and games played (161). This past year, Austin has been plagued with injuries
and played hurt most of the season; he is currently recovering from a stress fracture. This is the fourth year Austin has hosted the Austin
Kearns Celebrity Golf Tournament. Austin, Abby, Aubrey and Brady live in Lexington during the off-season.
